2010 Greater Pittsburgh ATHENA Award Finalist –

This year marked the 20th Anniversary of the award. It all began in 1982, Martha Mayhood Mertz, owner of Mayhood/Mertz Realtors, Inc., found herself as the only female member of the Lansing, Michigan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She resolved to recognize the outstanding professional women in her community and to encourage the opening of leadership opportunities for them. Inspired by the Greek Goddess Athena, who represents courage and wisdom guided by reason, the ATHENA Award was created. The Award’s focus on mentorship distinguishes it from other awards recognizing women in business.

Womansplace, Inc.
In recognition of a Community Organization that displays dedication and competency in providing benefits and services to citizens in the Community. The recipient of thes award collaborates with other community agencies and organizations and embraces community services as an ongoing commitment.

2008 Alfred J. Wishart Award Finalist –
Womansplace, Inc.
The Alfred W. Wishart, Jr. Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management is named in honor of “Burr” Wishart. Mr. Wishart served The Pittsburgh Foundation as its President for 31 years, and was Chairman of The Forbes Funds at its inception. Presented by The Forbes Funds in cooperation with The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Charities, The Wishart Award is made annually to a local nonprofit human service or community development organization that has demonstrated a sustained commitment to excellence in management and governance.
Excellence in the area of policies and procedures also earned Womansplace recognition in Community Threads; a publication of the Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership (GPNP).
